So, it's 2020 already. Wow, there goes another year that I didn't finish novel #3.

WILLIAM  SHAKESPEARE.

William Shakespeare is considered to be the greatest of writers in English. His literary masterpieces are many. He sprinkled just the right words in just the right places to make a specific point, define a character, create drama, continue the plot, or provide a punch of comedy. His countless words may not be used much today, but they made his work come alive and stand the test of time. Like a master craftsman, Shakespeare has used his knowledge of words to entertain audiences for over 500 years now. The parts of speech serve as the foundation of literacy.

Ronald W Reagan,40th President of the United States 1981-89. Noted for being a Conservative Republican, his fervent anticommunism, and his appealing personal style, characterized by a jaunty affability and folksy charm. The only movie star to become President, he had a remarkable skill as an orator that earned him the title "the Great Communicator".  During both his Governorship and his Presidency he wrote all of his own speeches. He also authored 33, yes 33 books!  One particular speech from over 30 years ago discusses the same problems that the USA are facing today. Watch this U-tube clip.

A book is not just a book.

A book isn't just a book. Not to the author anyway. A great deal is put into writing that story; time, thought, research, skill. A story is not only written once, it is edited and re-written many times before it is available in the stores. Many decisions have to be made during the writing and development process, making it quite an involved and complicated process. It is a great accomplishment to write and have a book published. Something to be truly proud of.                                                                                                                                                          

Award time again

Well, once again for the 6th year in a row I have won this award for my marketing of my books. Although, I do have to say that like my writing the marketing has also slowed down. It's only a small award, but it's an Award and I'm proud to be the recipient of it.

Write what you know

Whatever you are writing, whether it be an essay, newspaper article or book it is generally rule of thumb that you know what the heck you are writing about. Do your homework on the subject, research it to make sure that you really do know what you are writing about. If you don't know the subject well it will reflect in your writing.

Another rule of thumb is don't try to impress the reader by using big, uncommonly used words which some of us have probably never even heard of anyway. There's nothing worse than having to read a book with a dictionary by your side, it's frustrating and off putting.

A Murder of Crows
Back in the Middle ages someone decided that a group of crows should be called a murder. What do crows have to do with murder, who knows for certain. Some people believe that they are a sign of death, while others see them a sign of luck. This makes for a macabre collective noun.
